When the mind is cultivated without the heart, the person develops vanity. Vanity is identification with the form of the exaggerated imagination you have about yourself. You imagine that you are something that you are not. You identify with that image and live as that image.

Vanity belittles and insults others an denies their value and their rights. The false image built by vanity gradually replaces the real person. When the replacement is complete, the whole mechanism of the person functions under an unreal image. This is a great disaster for the future of the person because the harder he tries to find his True Self, the deeper he goes into his false self.
